My name is Jenny*.

I was born in Queens, New York and raised the only child of South Korean immigrants in the Chicago suburbs during the height of the Bulls’ dynasty. I don’t recall seeing a single game on TV. My first sports memory is, instead, of waking up before dawn to watch Korea advance to the semifinals at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

In the years since, neither the Bulls nor the Korean national football team have seen the success that matched that of the 90s and early aughts.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’ve had a lifetime of managing disappointment.

*I don't actually like being called Jenny, but I've gone by it for so long I don't know how else to live.
